January 2016 General Meeting

January 23, 2016 @ 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM PST

For our January meeting our guest speaker is Dr. Linda Gonzales, founder of New Directions for Academic Advancement. The primary focus of NDAA IS to bring about literacy for all children, enabling them to fulfill their destiny as adults. This is a vision as well for Democrats. Thanks, Dr. Gonzales, for all you do for our children and for being our first guest speaker of 2016. This is a fitting topic with which to start a bright new year—one of hope that ALL children can experience the life-long joy of being good readers.

Speaking of the New Year, It’s Membership time once again. Thanks to the many members who have already paid. If you haven’t or aren’t sure, please see Sheila or Eva at the M’ship table in the back. $25 Ind., $35 Family (2 or more), $10 Student. Checks made to DEMCCO. If you can’t make it Saturday, you can mail your check to DEMCCO, Box 871, Oceanside, Ca 92049-0871. Please include contact info. Our dues pay the bills. Proceeds from the summer fundraiser go to candidate contributions and other election expenses. Let’s keep our 42-year old club solvent and strong. We’re needed.

So come on out and meet with us, share some great political discussions, talk about the presidential election and have a nice cup of coffee with some other friendly Democrats. And, who knows we may even have a few of our local politicians stop by to talk to us and even seek our endorsement.

Before the general meeting at 10-Pat McFarlane’s Political Action Committee meets at 9 am.   Participation open to all members.  This Committee, more than most any other, represents what DEMCCO and other volunteer political groups are all about.  There is much to be done in this coming election cycle and Pat knows what to do.  Her contact info:  P.A.McFarlane2016@gmail.com 760-439-1481.

Some of you may know that Oceanside Go-Team coordinator Jeanette Peck has moved to Orange County. This leaves Oceanside without a G-T organizer. The County Party Go-Team volunteers are a big reason our Democratic voting registration numbers have gone up dramatically over the last years, but still not enough. Cecily Resnick is the North County coordinator. PLEASE, PLEASE, contact her if you can do anything at all to help. If you can no longer walk precincts, phoning, mailing and eMailing are fine tools also. Narima Lopes is the Carlsbad coordinator. This city could use a little help from the Democrats.

No. Cty. Go-Team Coordinator Cecily Resnick 760-652-5333 northcoastal@goteamsd.org

C’bad Go-Team Coordinator Narima Lopes 760-431-8201 nmlopes2@yahoo.com

Why is the Go-Team important? Why are clubs like DEMCCO important? Look at the numbers. 31 U.S. Governors are Republican. 114th Congress: The House has 247 Republicans , and only 188 Democrats. The Senate count is equally dismal, with 54 Republicans, 44 Dems., 2 Ind. The majority of Supreme Court judges are conservative. Are all Americans being fairly represented in our 50 States and One Nation? I doubt it. It’s tough to get the Party’s humane message out when there aren’t enough voices to deliver it.
