DEMCCO’s Meetings are Now Hybrid

Our monthly meetings held on the 4th Saturday of each month (except November and December to allow our members to spend time with their families during the holidays) are now being held in person at the Women’s Club of Carlsbad and virtually by Zoom.

Members and guests are welcome to attend in person meetings as long as they are fully vaccinated and boosted, and have no COVID-19 symptoms or positive test for COVID-19.  The Women’s Club of Carlsbad is located at 3320 Monroe St. in Carlsbad (across the street from the athletic fields of Carlsbad High School). There is ample parking to the rear of the building.

Members and guests may attend virtually by logging in on Zoom at the following link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89292531942 or by dialing 669 900 6833  and putting in the Meeting ID 892 9253 1942 when requested.

NEXT MEETING:

What Makes Democratic Campaigns Successful?

This month’s program will start at 11:00 a.m. rather than the usual 10:00 a.m. but please join us for important information about candidates, the election and issues important to our members.

The program will be a panel discussion considering the following:

– How campaigns recruit: supporters, volunteers, interns, etc.

– How a campaign is designed, e.g. for specific candidates’ qualities,

– Where does campaign funding come from and how are funds raised?

Panel members are:

Lela Panagides, a talented small business owner, mother, and community activist.  Lela ran for Carlsbad City Council District 2 in 2020. Her knowledge and leadership set her above the usual candidate.  Although Lela lost her election to a well-financed, multi-term Republican, she learned a lot about running for office and kindly shares this information with interested groups.

Hunter Jones Philips is currently serving as Campaign Manager for the Chris Duncan campaign for AD 74.  Hunter began working campaigns as the Political Director for the Mike Levin campaign and left in December 2020 to become the Campaign Manager for the Katrina Foley for Orange County Board of Supervisors campaign.  Hunter has led 2 successful campaigns and is working on doing the same thing a third time.

Esther Sanchez began her career on the Oceanside City Council in 2000 and now serves as Mayor.  Esther has managed all 7 of her campaigns and won every one of them.  Her success is a result of maintaining close ties in the Oceanside community, her knowledge and perspective on issues important to her constituents, and a generous supply of energy.
